Desde hace décadas, en la misión y los principios guías del sistema público educativo puertorriqueño encontramos expresada una visión de la educación activa, constructiva y transformadora. Ahora bien, al analizar la gran mayoría de los salones de clases, observamos que la enseñanza continúa el modelo de transferencia de conocimiento. Sostenemos que una de las dificultades principales que ha limitado el que la visión se traduzca en práctica es el proceso de cambio que corrientemente se utiliza En este artículo analizaremos las visiones que corrientemente guían los procesos de cambio, las iniciativas que hemos promovido desde el proyecto de las Escuelas de Iniciativas para cambiar esta visión y el tipo de líder que necesitamos para lograr estos cambios. Presentaremos unas ideas sobre el tipo de educación que requieren estos líderes.

From ideas to reality: The need to transform the process of educational change
For decades, the mission and principles of the Puerto Rican Educational System express a vision of teaching as an active, constructive and transformative process. Yet, as we visit classrooms we find a teaching process based on the transfering of knowlwdge. One of the major stumbling block for the transformation of teaching is the vision that guides the process of change. In this article, we will analyze the vision that currently guide the change process; present the inititives that we have began in order to change this vision and the type of leader we need to obtain the necessary change. We will also present ideas regarding the type of preparation that these leaders require.
